Apple has applied for several new patents, including a patent for facial recognition based on veins that run under the skin of the face. That writes Patently Apple.
Currently, facial recognition is still done by measuring the distance between certain parts of the face, such as eyes, nose, mouth and lips.
That can be problematic because it allows people who are very similar, like identical twins, to unlock each other’s phones.
The renewed facial recognition method looks at the pattern of veins and (small) blood vessels that run just under the skin of the face.
The pattern of these blood vessels is unique for each person and is also different for identical twins.
