Australia and the United States on the night from Sunday to Monday demanded the immediate release of Myanmar Government Leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Also for other prominent members of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party after being killed by the military during a coup arrested.
The Myanmar army staged a coup on the night from Sunday to Monday. Suu Kyi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, has been arrested, an NLD spokesperson reported earlier.
Several other prominent members of the party and the president Win Myint have also been arrested.
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the military arrests and says he is deeply concerned. “These developments are a serious setback to Myanmar’s democratic reforms,” he said.
The UN Security Council is meeting this week to discuss the “problematic” situation in Myanmar.
