On Tuesday evening (local time), US President Joe Biden paid his last tribute to police officer Brian Sicknick, who died in the wake of Trump supporters’ storming of the Capitol on January 6.
Sicknick’s body is in the state in the Capitol, a rare honour usually reserved for political greats.
Sicknick’s chest is placed under the iconic dome of the Washington Parliament building that he helped protect. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Senate Group Chairman Chuck Schumer announced Friday that Sicknick would be laid out in the Capitol.
The ceremony began at 9:30 PM, after which Sicknick’s colleagues from the Capitol Police were able to salute their dead colleague. The relatives thanked Pelosi and Schumer “for conferring this historic honour on our fallen American hero.”
“We also want to show our appreciation to the millions of people who have supported us and empathize with us during this challenging time statement from the family.
