President-to-be Joe Biden has thanked scientists and researchers who worked on corona vaccines on Twitter Monday night.
Earlier in the day, 78-year-old Biden was vaccinated in front of the cameras against the virus, which has now been diagnosed in more than 18 million people in the US and has killed nearly 320,000 people in the country.
“We owe you an awful lot,” Biden writes on his Twitter page. “And to the American people – know there is zero to worry about. When the vaccine becomes available, I urge you to take it.”
Biden also made that statement in front of the cameras when he was given the vaccine in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. Biden’s wife Jill, 69, was vaccinated earlier on Monday, Biden’s team said.
Soon-to-be Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband (both 56) follow later.
Democrat Biden has pledged to make the fight against the corona pandemic his number one priority when he is president. He urged his countrymen on Monday to continue wearing masks and to follow the directions of experts.
