US to Buy 105 Million Doses of Pfizer Vaccine for Fall

British imports of corona vaccines are not jeopardized by travel restrictions imposed by European countries. So said the British Transport Minister Grant Shapps, who explained to Sky News that not all freight traffic has been shut down.

The United Kingdom was the first country to start vaccinating residents with the Pfizer vaccine this month. That drug is imported from Belgium. That country, like France, the Netherlands and many other countries, has restricted travel from Great Britain, because a new variant of the coronavirus has emerged there.

Shapps said, according to the news channel, the vaccines are often imported via containers that are not taken by truck drivers.

“This will not affect the vaccination program,” said the minister of the travel restrictions that are being imposed. He also stressed that there is “no reason” to start hoarding in the run-up to Christmas.

Still, the British government is very concerned about possible shortages. According to Sky News, there are fears that some foodstuffs brought in from abroad could run out in about two weeks. The government would now find out how many food supermarkets still have in stock.

Truck drivers can still drive to the UK with their cargo, but they cannot return to the EU. This could result in many drivers refraining from such a trip. Chaos at British ports is already being taken into account.
