In large parts of the US state of California, a curfew will be in effect from Saturday due to the increasing number of corona infections.
Then the residents are no longer allowed on the street after 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The measure will remain in force until at least December 21, Governor Gavin Newsom reported Thursday.
“The virus is spreading at a rate that we have not seen since the start of the pandemic and the coming days and weeks will be critical in stopping the wave,” he said in a statement. “We’ve done it before and have to do it again.”
Curfews apply to most of the state, including the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego. About 94 percent of the population is affected. San Francisco is omitted, but strict measures are still in place there. For example, restaurants are closed.
California is the state with the largest population in the United States, with about 40 million inhabitants.
