Barefoot weather? Time to hair removal! Do you sometimes like to get rid of it quickly, and do you miss spots or is your skin irritated? With these tips, you get your legs, armpits and bikini line blissfully silky.

What Hair Removal Methods Are There?

There are numerous ways in which you can remove unwanted hair. They each have their advantages and disadvantages, and one method has given smooth results for longer than the other.

Shaving: it is the most used hair removal method, where you remove the visible hair with a razor or device and some shaving cream. Your legs stay smooth for 1 to 2 days until the stubble grows back.
Hair removal cream or spray: lubricate or spray the product on the area you want to remove, wait a few minutes and scrape it off with the hairs. Just like shaving, you only remove the visible hairs, the hair root remains intact, allowing you to enjoy a soft result for 1 to 2 days.
Waxing: the hair root is completely removed from the skin, which ensures that the hairs stay away for 3 to 8 weeks. The method is not entirely painless: a sticky strip is placed on your skin and pulled off in one quick movement.
Body sugaring: this method is done with sugar resin, a wax paste that is applied to the skin at body temperature. The hairs are removed with the root so that the result remains around 3 to 8 weeks.
Epilation: for larger areas, this is often done with a device that grabs the hairs and pulls the root out of the skin. It typically takes around 3 to 4 weeks before the hairs become visible again.
Laser hair removal: unwanted hair is treated with a laser beam. The hair follicle is destroyed so that it can no longer make new hair. You can permanently depilate your bikini line with a laser treatment. Laser hair removal is the best permanent hair removal treatment.
IPL hair removal: with IPL, or Intense Pulse Light, the hair roots are set to inactive with light pulses. It causes the hairs to fall out automatically and to grow back less quickly. With this method, you can count on a long-lasting, soft result.

Hair Removal: Multiple Mistakes to Avoid

Practice makes perfect, even when it comes to hair removal. Do you want to get started as well and prepared as possible? Be sure to read through these 9 common mistakes. That way you can avoid them!

1. You Do Not Prepare Your Skin Well
Before you begin hair removal, it is essential to prepare your skin well. Use a mild scrub that gently masks you in with circular movements: hairs that get stuck are released, and your skin becomes silky smooth. You avoid ingrown hairs and shaving bumps, so it is best not to skip this step.

2. You Shave Dry
Dry shaving does more harm than good. Use a good shaving cream or gel to prevent wounds, shaving bumps and burns. Thanks to the cream, your blade glides smoothly over your skin, which also makes shaving more pleasant.

3. You Remove Every Day
Hair removal every day is not a good idea. You irritate your skin with it, and new bumps get the chance to be inflamed so that only more will pop up. So, give your skin a rest and only depilate every 2 to 3 days.

4. You Use the Wrong Razor Blade
A pack of disposable blades from your favourite budget brand may be suitable for your wallet, but it doesn’t always make your skin happy with it. You better purchase a copy with multiple blades, which makes it easier to remove troublesome hairs on your knees and ankles.

5. You Do Not Replace Your Razor Blade Enough
Razor blades must be replaced after a while. You can usually use them 5 to 10 times, depending on the quality. You can often estimate when the blade is blunt (e.g. when it no longer seems to glide smoothly over your skin, and you can shave the hairs less quickly).
Moreover, a whole lot of bacteria remain in the blade, which comes into contact with the hair follicles and can cause inflammation. Always rinse your razor blade thoroughly or opt for an electric shaver that is easy to maintain.

6. You Against Hair Growth
Shaving against hair growth may give the smoothest result, but it is not such a good idea. While shaving, it not only feels very stiff and unnatural but also causes wounds and shaving burns. Better shave with the direction of the hair, so! Extra plus: your razor blade will last considerably longer.

7. You Wax Wrong
Waxing seems simple, yet it is more than just pulling the strip off your skin. It is vital to keep your skin tight and pull the strip off against the direction of hair growth. You do that best in one smooth movement.

8. You, Will, Remember on The Day of a Party
Are you going to a party? Then certainly do not deprive the day itself. Your skin often turns red after shaving, waxing or epilation and that redness usually only disappears after a few hours. Getting started a day before the party is, therefore, a better option.

9. You Get Out of The Door Without Caring for Your Skin
Done with hair removal? Then rinse with cold water. It closes the pores, making your skin less susceptible to infections. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel and use a well-moisturising cream to nourish your skin and restore it faster.
