Social media company Facebook is delaying the return to the office of its American employees until early next year. The reason is the advance of the delta variant of the coronavirus.
Facebook refers to the recent health data in a press release, which shows that the number of infections is increasing rapidly.
Initially, it was planned that most Facebook offices in the United States would reopen in September, at a capacity of fifty percent. From October, all employees were welcome again. But that has now been postponed to January 2022.
Facebook expects such a postponement to come for some other countries as well. “We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with experts to ensure that the return plan is safe for everyone,” it said.
Facebook has about 60,000 employees. Other tech companies such as Amazon and Microsoft have already postponed the return to the office.
