Fauci: Research into Omicron Variant Takes Two Weeks

According to the top medical adviser to the American White House, Anthony Fauci, it will take two weeks to investigate the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus properly.

This includes research into the infectiousness of the variant and the extent to which it may be resistant to existing vaccines.

The Omicron variant has not yet been found in the United States, but according to Fauci, it is “inevitable” that it will also appear there soon. However, he said he believes existing vaccines likely provide “a measure of protection against severe cases of Covid-19”. Fauci, therefore once again emphasized the importance of administering booster shots in the fight against corona.

US President Joe Biden will give a press conference on Monday about the American approach to the new virus variant. On Monday, there will also be an emergency meeting of health ministers from the G7, the group of rich industrial countries, to discuss the international fight against it.
