Former Vice President of the United States, Walter Mondale, passed away on Monday at 93. A spokesman for his family has informed the news site Axios.

Mondale was the U.S. Vice President from 1977 to 1981, when Democrat Jimmy Carter was president.

The 42nd U.S. Vice President himself ran in the 1984 presidential election but was then defeated with convincing results by incumbent President Ronald Reagan.

Mondale only obtained 13 electoral votes, compared to 525 for Reagan. He only managed to win in his home state of Minnesota and Washington D.C.

Mondale had been since George H.W. Bush in 2018 the oldest living former vice president.
