Google has confirmed that it will introduce a smartphone with a foldable screen. South Korean Samsung, still the clear market leader in that niche market, will have a strong competitor.
The American internet giant has published a short video showing the folding phone. The device was named Pixel Fold and folds open like a book. On May 10, Google will provide more information at its developer conference Google I/O in California.
Samsung has already launched two types of foldable smartphones: one folds open to the size of a tablet, and the other is more compact and has the size of an ordinary smartphone when unfolded. Chinese suppliers have also launched folding screens in recent years.
But, until now, they have mainly remained in the Chinese market.
