After suspicions of possible arson, an investigation has been started into a deadly forest fire in the US state of Oregon.
The local authorities have announced this. The fire broke out in the city of Ashland and destroyed hundreds of homes in nearby places.
A victim’s body was found in one of the destroyed buildings. According to the Ashland police chief, even more, bodies are likely to be discovered if authorities search homes destroyed by the fire.
In the state, in the northwest of the country, several massive wildfires have been raging for days—the strong wind-fueled them.
There were also high temperatures. Detroit, Blue River, Vida, Phoenix and Talent have been hit hard, with tens of thousands of people forced to leave their homes in haste.
In total, nearly 100 wildfires are raging in the western United States. In Oregon alone, 3,000 firefighters have been deployed to fight several dozen fires.
In Medford, a town in southern Oregon with a population of over 80,000, most people have been told to evacuate or consider evacuation.
