Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin tested positive for the coronavirus during a visit to Washington.
The Irish Times reports that Martin is in the American city to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland’s national holiday. A meeting with US President Joe Biden was scheduled for Thursday, among other things.
Insiders report to the Irish newspaper that the physical meeting with Biden is “almost certainly” over after Martin’s positive test result.
The prime minister was tested as a precaution after someone from the Irish delegation visiting Washington was found to be infected with the coronavirus during a routine check. The meeting between Martin and Biden may still take place via a video link.
