US Vice President Kamala Harris will meet Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky this week. That is happening according to a senior White House official around the security conference in Munich, where all foreign ministers of the G7 are present.
Harris will meet Zelenski on Saturday. According to the official, that will be “a real opportunity to emphasize our commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”. Earlier this week, Zelensky invited US President Joe Biden to visit Ukraine, which the Ukrainian government leader said would “send a strong signal” and contribute to de-escalation.
The ministers of the G7 countries will discuss the crisis surrounding Ukraine from Friday to Sunday during the security conference. There were already rumours that Harris would be present.
The G7 countries are Germany, Canada, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and the US. The EU is also joining but is not officially a member. No one will likely attend the meeting on behalf of Russia.
