A man has died in Mexico after being attacked by a Bengal tiger, apparently kept by a private individual.
A video circulating on social media shows the man putting his hands into the animal’s cage, presumably to feed it, and the animal scratching and biting his arm. The footage shows screaming and a pool of blood.
The Michoacán state prosecutor’s office confirmed media reports on Wednesday that the 32-year-old man had died as a result of the incident on Tuesday evening. He suffered serious injuries to his arms, and his health deteriorated rapidly after that. It is not clear when the attack exactly took place.
The incident is said to have taken place on private property in the village of Peribán. According to the media, there were other exotic animals there. The victim was probably caring for the animals. The public prosecutor will investigate whether the owner of the animals has the necessary permits.
