Record Number of Infections in Germany, Two Years After First Case

In Germany, 6,604 new corona infections have been registered in the past 24 hours, reports the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM.

This is considerably less than the day before when 10,790 new cases were reported.

In Germany, it is almost weekly that the numbers are relatively low just after the weekend and then increase rapidly as the week goes on.

For example, the RKI reported 12,674 new corona infections on Saturday and 12,834 new corona infections on Friday, almost twice as many as were reported on Monday.

In total, more than 2.5 million corona infections have now been diagnosed in Germany. The death toll rose by 47 deaths to 73,418, according to RKI figures.
