Nearly 900 Tourists Evacuated in Peru Due to Heavy Rainfall

Nearly 900 tourists have been evacuated from the tourist attraction of Machu Picchu in Peru after torrential rains caused flooding.

 

889 tourists were trapped in the tourist village of Machu Piccchu Pueblo after the river flowing through the village overflowed on Friday. The tourists have been transferred to a nearby tourist destination.

The flood destroyed several homes. One person is missing, and one person has been injured.

Machu Picchu is a World Heritage Site and a very popular tourist destination. Before the pandemic, about 1.5 million tourists came every day. In 2021, 447,800 tourists visited the ancient Inca city.
