Israel Receives First Shipment of Pfizer Vaccines

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to provide all Israelis with a one-time payment to alleviate the financial consequences of the coronavirus. He said that at a press conference on Wednesday.

In the Prime Minister’s plan, families with one child will receive £ 500 converted. Families with two children can count on around 620 pounds, and families with three or more children are eligible for a compensation of 740 pounds. Single people can look forward to about 175 pounds, Netanyahu said.

“We need to get the economy going again,” said the prime minister about his corona compensation plan, which will still have to be approved by the government and possibly parliament. Netanyahu advised citizens to shop for the money. “That will benefit the trade.”

The prime minister is under attack for his approach to the coronavirus. Israel introduced an intense lockdown on March 19 but began easing corona measures early in May.

There were hardly any new infections that month, but at the end of May, the number of cases started to rise again. Netanyahu is now accused of having relaxed the corona measures too quickly. On Tuesday, a record 1681 new infections were reported.

Last week, Netanyahu announced short-term support for the self-employed. He also presented plans for an emergency package worth £ 19 billion to support the Israeli economy. More than 20 percent of the country’s workforce is unemployed.
