“Although I want nothing more than to act for my fans in Saudi Arabia, after delving deeper into the subject,

 I believe it is more important to speak out for better women’s and LGBT rights in the country,” said singer.

Nicki would perform in Jeddah on July 18. The Human Rights Foundation called on her to abandon the concert last week.

In Saudi Arabia, women have far fewer rights by law than men.

There are separate restaurants and schools for men and women.

Women have been allowed to learn how to drive in the country for a few years.

The law also requires men who have sex with men to be sentenced to death.

Among others, One Direction singer Liam Payne will be performing at the music festival.

The Dutch DJ Tiësto has also performed several times in Jeddah in recent years,

 despite calls from human rights organisations not to do so because of the bad situation for women and LGBTs.

The Saudi crown prince is also under fire for the murder and sawing of the critical journalist Jamal Khashoggi in October 2018.
