No More Evacuation Routes From Besieged Ukrainian Areas

No evacuation routes will be opened for residents of besieged Ukrainian areas for the third day in a row. Russia and Ukraine failed to reach an agreement to open so-called humanitarian corridors to allow people to move to safer places.

On the days when there are evacuation routes, usually thousands of people from Mariupol and Luhansk, among others, leave for more westerly places in Ukraine.

Although Ukraine still wants an evacuation route for people in Mariupol, Russia says it has full control of that city except for a steel factory. The last soldiers fighting for Ukraine are said to have holed up in that factory.

Russia has launched a major offensive in the east of the country, according to Ukraine. The focus seems to be on the Donbas region, which is home to the renegade self-proclaimed independent republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
