One person was killed on Monday in a shooting at a high school in the US state of Tennessee. An officer was also injured, the police reported. The suspect has been arrested.
The shots were fired at a school in Knoxville, in the east of the state. The identities of both the victim and the possible perpetrator have not been disclosed. Both would be men.
According to Mayor Indya Kincannon, the injured officer is conscious and is doing well under the circumstances. “I thanked him for risking his life to guard students and school staff.
He said he would instead get hurt than anyone else,” Kincannon told CBS News.
The shooting took place in the afternoon at Austin-East Magnet High School. What exactly happened is still unclear. The police had gone to the school because someone was said to have been seen with a gun. When officers approached the suspect, shots were fired, police said.
