US President Joe Biden has told the family of the killed black man George Floyd that he is relieved by the jury’s verdict in the criminal case against white ex-cop Derek Chauvin.
A jury found Chauvin guilty of Floyd’s death on all three charges in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke to Floyd’s family by phone. “This is very important,” Biden said on the phone in a video the family shared on social media. The president promised to take the family to the White House on the Air Force One presidential plane.
Before the jury’s verdict, Biden said he found the evidence in the Floyd death case overwhelming and that he would pray for the correct verdict. The president will provide a detailed response later in the day.
