Why Republicans are Preparing a New Trump Campaign — Even Though They Don't Have To

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that there might be a corona vaccine in three to four weeks. With that, he repeated predictions from public health officials and pharmaceutical giant Pfizer earlier this month.

Trump made the statement in a meeting with citizens in Philadelphia organized by news channel ABC News. The president said that any vaccine would soon be ready for distribution.

“We are very close to a vaccine,” Trump said. “If you want to know the truth, it might have taken the previous government years to come up with a vaccine because of the Food and Drug Administration and all the approvals. And we’re weeks away from the vaccine, you know. It could be three weeks, four weeks. “

Trump has been increasingly attacking the FDA drug watchdog recently. He wants the FDA to accelerate the approval of a vaccine and a cure for the coronavirus.

There is concern within the FDA and the medical community that such accelerated approval will compromise the effectiveness and safety of the final vaccines or drugs.

According to Trump, his critics do not want a cure for corona before the presidential election in November, and there is a conspiracy against him.

The president himself has recently come under fire after audio recordings by renowned journalist Bob Woodward showed that Trump knew from an early stage how dangerous the new coronavirus is, but deliberately downplayed it.

The United States is the worst affected by the lung virus of all countries. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the coronavirus has been diagnosed in nearly 6.6 million people in the US. More than 195,000 people have died so far, more than a fifth of the global death toll.
