The number of Germans infected with the coronavirus can actually be ten times higher than the officially determined number.
Researchers from the University of Bonn suggest that following the first results of a study among residents of the municipality of Gangelt, across the border with Limburg.
The researchers estimate that 1.8 million Germans are infected. According to them, the actual amount of infections is higher than the official number because 22 percent of the infected in Gangelt showed no symptoms.
“The fact that apparently, a fifth of all infections do not cause noticeable symptoms suggests that the presence of symptoms is not enough to determine who is infected and who can transmit the disease,” said Martin Exner, one of the researchers and head of the Institute of Hygiene and Health of the University of Bonn.
