The US Supports Sri Lanka Fight against Extremism. The struggle of Sri Lanka against Islamic extremism is also the struggle of the United States.
This is what US Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo said in a message to Sri Lanka affected by terrorist attacks.
During a series of coordinated bomb attacks on churches and hotels, almost 300 were killed and around five hundred injured on Easter Monday. Among the dead are at least four Americans.
According to the island state government, Islamic extremists from a relatively unknown group, the National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ – National Association Group), are behind the attacks.
24 arrests have since been made. The Sri Lankan government suspects that NJT had assistance from an international terrorist network.
