Advisors from the American health service CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) are positive about a booster shot for young people.

12 to 17-year-olds should receive a third shot against the coronavirus with the drug from Pfizer/BioNTech, the experts say.

Earlier this week, the FDA approved booster vaccinations for 12- to 15-year-olds. CDC advisers have already enabled 16- and 17-year-olds to get a booster, but the third shot has not yet been recommended. In the advice issued on Wednesday, the experts advise young people to be vaccinated for the third time.

Official approval from the CDC is required actually to administer the injections.

The easing of booster conditions is taken amid a sharp uptick in the number of infections from the omikron variant of the coronavirus. Currently, more than 70 percent of Americans over the age of 12 have been vaccinated against the virus twice.
