The US health service CDC monitors more than 60 cruise ships for corona infections on board. As a result, several boats have been refused entry at various ports in the Caribbean.
For example, Royal Caribbean International’s Odyssey of the Seas, where 55 people had tested positive this week, was not allowed to dock in Curaçao and Aruba. In addition, Carnival Cruises’ Carnival Freedom was banned from Bonaire due to a number of corona cases.
On Sunday morning, the latter ship arrived in Miami, where all passengers disembarked. According to Carnival Cruises, the next trip will go ahead as planned, and alternative destinations will be sought if boats are again refused entry at ports.
Cruises were halted for more than a year due to the corona crisis. Since June, cruise ships have been allowed to sail again, and corona measures have been applied on board. In addition, employees and passengers must be vaccinated to be allowed to sail.
